A customer requested Marlene Goetzeler who is a co-owner of Freeport Bakery to make a unique cake. The customer needed a buttermilk cake that is doll-shaped in which Ken, Barbie’s usual admirer was to wear a tiara and pink colored dress. After coming up with the creation, she went ahead and posted its photos on Facebook.
As opposed to what Goetzeler had expected, the photos stirred a lot of negativity; something she failed to understand. After understanding the reason behind the negativity, she now supports those people. She wasn’t after putting across a political statement, being a custom baker, she was after making her loyal customer happy.
The reason behind all that was that there are little boys who neglect Superman action figures and like playing with Barbies and little girls who prefer Iron Man toys as opposed to playing with Disney princesses. Don’t you think it makes sense?
Some customers decided to “unlike” their page and other swore not to make purchases from them. Luckily, there are people who have come out and supported the Freeport Bakery amid that storm. Some wonder why people who never ordered or paid for the cake are bitter about it.
